I just wanted to recap with a post to sign off from this module. I wanted to make a few points and to be as clear possible I feel it best to summarise.
I have grown so much both as an artist and as a person in this module. I’ve pushed myself to look at new avenues of other practitioners and to look at some deeper philosophical view points on contemporary photography and in turn it has opened my eyes with new opportunities within my own practice. So far throughout the middle I looked at social documentary photographers like Larry Clarke, Nan Golden, Grieg and Grieg E Friedman. I have understood how there personal passion and drive has had an important cultural impact both in society as a whole but within visual culture specifically. In this module I have widened my horizons and looked at contemporary artists most notably Jeff Wall. I really identify with his work on so many levels. I have felt this way for many years but feel that it’s only now that I can articulate a rational and draw comparisons in thinking and in future goals. I am really moved by Wall’s thoughts on ‘what is reportage’ and his thoughts on arranging subjects to behave in a way that they would have at another time for the purposes of capturing a scene that has already been scene. ‘We are all actors’ .
I’ve learned to mange myself in times of creative struggle by adapting new strategies and forcing myself to work in unusual times and environments to break my Brian patterns. By playing with the ideals of the snap shot aesthetic and applying inter contextual references revolving around my practice I feel that there is a whole new creative universe untapped and waiting for me.
